The Fieldbus Foundation has announced the 2007-2008 recipients of the James Gray - Fieldbus Foundation educational scholarship awards
The awards honour the memory of James (Jim) Gray, a long-time leader in the Fieldbus Foundation who passed away in 2002 It has established a perpetual USD250,000 endowment fund providing awards to eligible students studying industrial automation

The 2007-2008 scholarship recipients include:.
1) Muhammad Dzahir Bin Mohamed Zain, at the Singapore Polytechnic: Muhammad Dzahir Bin Mohamed Zain is in his third year of studies at Singapore Polytechnic, pursuing a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Muhammad's career path is focused on control engineering with an emphasis on smart instruments, fieldbus systems, and building automation services.

After graduating from Singapore Polytechnic, he plans to attend a major university in Singapore or overseas.
2) Robert Lawrence, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), in Calgary: In his second year of the two-year Instrumentation Engineering Technology programme at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Robert Lawrence is employed part-time in the instrumentation field building analysers and sample systems.
He is a mature student who provides leadership in his classes by applying work experience in the lab environment.
3) Akira Uehara, Waseda University in Tokyo: Akira Uehara is a second-year student at Waseda University studying process diagnostics with Foundation fieldbus.
His course work has focused on instrumentation issues such as detection of impulse line blockages in differential pressure transmitters.
He will present a paper on this topic at the upcoming Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers conference.
Akira will complete studies for a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering in Spring 2008.
4) Jamie Hawes, Lee College, Baytown, Texas: Seeking an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree from Lee College, Jamie Hawes has a strong interest in advanced control technologies such as Foundation fieldbus.
She is an active member of the Lee College Section of the Instrumentation Systems and Automation Society (ISA) and belongs to the Nexus of Instrumentation Women (NIW).
Jamie will continue her education by pursuing an Electrical Engineering degree at the University of Houston.
She plans a career in the field of Instrumentation Engineering.
Fieldbus Foundation President and CEO Richard Timoney congratulated the 2007-2008 scholarship recipients.
"The James Gray-Fieldbus Foundation Scholarship Fund is pleased to award these scholarships to four very deserving instrumentation students," said Timoney: "The Foundation and scholarship recipients appreciate the donations from automation technology supporters around the world, whose efforts will help maintain a strong and vibrant control industry".
Honoured by the scholarship fund in his name, Jim Gray was employed by Invensys/Foxboro for 25 years as sales and marketing manager.
In addition to being very active within the Fieldbus Foundation from its inception, he held the positions of: secretary of the Board of Directors, member of the Executive Committee, and member of the US Marketing Committee.
