The Fieldbus Foundation has announced that the Foundation Fieldbus End User Council - Middle East (FFEUC-ME) has made a USD25,000 donation to the James O Gray-Fieldbus Foundation Scholarship Fund

This FF end user group earned a "Founding Sponsor" designation with its donation, and joined other leading automation industry participants in supporting the educational scholarship The James O Gray-Fieldbus Foundation Scholarship Fund honours the memory of James (Jim) O Gray, a long-time Fieldbus Foundation supporter, and friend and colleague to many in the automation industry, who passed away in 2002

The scholarship fund is to establish a perpetual USD250,000 endowment for educational scholarships and provides annual awards of up to USD1,000 per student.

These scholarships are awarded to students around the world preparing for a career in industrial automation.

Fieldbus Foundation President and CEO Rich Timoney praised the scholarship involvement by the fieldbus user organisation.

He said, "On behalf of the Fieldbus Foundation, I'd like to thank the Foundation fieldbus end user community in the Middle East for its generous donation to the Jim Gray Scholarship fund.

A host of leading end user companies provided support for this sponsorship.

We appreciate their efforts to help keep the global automation industry strong".

Timoney noted that special recognition is due to the FFEUC-ME organising committee charter members, including David Buerkel, James Sprague, Luay Al-Awami and Ralph Hartman, all employed by Saudi Aramco.

Funding for the scholarship donation was provided through sponsorships from the Middle East marketing committee members over the last several Multaqa events, and was also made possible by donations of employee time and resources by EUC members.

The Fieldbus Foundation regional end user councils provide a forum for the exchange of information about the application and development of Foundation fieldbus.

EUC members share experiences from field trials and commercial fieldbus installations.

The EUCs also ensure that end users heavily influence future enhancements of Foundation fieldbus, and that the technology meets the needs of the marketplace.

Invensys/Foxboro employed Jim Gray for 25 years as sales and marketing manager.

In addition to being very active within the Fieldbus Foundation from its inception, he held the positions of: secretary of the Board of Directors, member of the Executive Committee, and member of the US Marketing Committee.

Foundation members, and those interested in the progress of the automation industry, are encouraged to participate in the James O Gray-Fieldbus Foundation Scholarship Fund.
