The next end user demonstration and discussion seminar organised by the Fieldbus Foundation UK Marketing Committee will be held on Wednesday 9 April 2008 at the Madejski Football Stadium in Reading

The seminar will follow a similar format to the previously successful seminars held in the North-West and North-East of England, and will take place from 1000-1630 The seminar will be free to attend and is specifically targeted at an audience of current or prospective end users, contractors, specifiers and implementers of Foundation fieldbus technology

With its theme "Changing the Playing Field", the seminar will reveal how Foundation fieldbus technology unifies process integrity, business intelligence, and open, scalable integration as part of a single, plant-wide solution.

There will be practical demonstrations of various aspects of Foundation fieldbus technology and ample opportunity to quiz suppliers about your own fieldbus implementation issues, particularly concerning the use of fieldbus in hazardous areas.

Widely used in the process industries, Foundation technology provides an automation infrastructure for operational excellence.

Brief presentations will be followed by practical demonstrations on working fieldbus systems, from a wide range of suppliers, on the following topics:.

* Business Intelligence: Foundation technology provides a high degree of business intelligence at the infrastructural level through client/server technology and supports business processes such as production management, asset management and enterprise level applications.

Foundation technology provides extensive diagnostics and enhanced capabilities for tracking, tracing, validation and regulatory compliance.

The discussion on Business Intelligence will be led by Emerson Process Management.

* Process Integrity: Foundation technology ensures that the network remains operational and control in the field is enabled through the use of its extensive function block structure.

The new Foundation safety instrumented functions (SIF) concept is set to revolutionise safety and critical control systems.

The discussion on Process Integrity and Reliability will be led by ABB.

* Open, Scaleable Integration: Foundation technology offers unlimited scalability and can be implemented on the smallest to the largest process automation system.

Its openness and non-reliance on a particular operating system or supplier platform makes it easy to adapt to new standards.

The discussion on Open Scalable Integration will be led by Yokogawa.

* Practical implementation of Foundation fieldbus systems: How to build a segment? How to maintain a segment? How to modify a segment? This discussion on Fieldbus Implementation will be led by Honeywell.

Refreshments will be available throughout the morning and all attendees are invited to stay for a complimentary lunch.

On display for further discussions there will be:.

** Working systems from ABB / Emerson / Honeywell / Yokogawa.

** Devices from BEKA / Endress+Hauser / Smar / Krohne / Invensys / Topworx / Vega.

** Physical layer interfaces from MTL / MooreHawke Fieldbus / Pepperl+Fuchs / Turck.

Attendees will be offered a tour of the extensive facilities at the Madejski stadium following the presentations.

John S Hartley, Chairman of the Fieldbus Foundation UK marketing committee, is delighted to be returning to the Madejski stadium to host another Fieldbus Foundation end user event.

"The UK marketing committee enjoys hosting its end user events at some of the major sports venues across the UK: To return to the Madejski venue with such a focused message for today's enterprises, supported by a wealth of proven end user implementation experience and the extensive technical advances of Foundation technology, is very satisfying!".
