Operator interface for thermal mass controllers

A Flotech Solutions product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Jul 15, 2008

Brooks Instrument is pleased to announce the release of a local operator interface (LOI) option available for its 4800 Series thermal mass flow meters

The 4800 Series LOI provides a convenient user interface to view, control, and configure all the Brooks 4800 Series devices.

The LOI provides a 28mm wide by 11mm high back-lit display that securely mounts directly on top of the mass flow instrument and allows the user to power the device via a DC power adapter.

The LOI measures the flow signal level from the Brooks 4800 Series device and displays it on an LCD display.

A jog dial button allows the user to send control signals to the Brooks 4800 Series device to adjust the flow, perform a valve override, zero the device, and set device configuration parameters such as gas curve selection, engineering units, high/low alarm, and totaliser functions.

It uses LEDs to provide a visual indication of device status and device mode.

It also allows the user to connect a remote controller to the device and bypass the local LOI control.

Customers in laboratories or universities who conduct bench-top experiments will value this new local indication option.

It is also well suited for OEM customers who might want to use the LOI as a tool to configure their 4800 Series devices.

All Brooks products are available from Flotech Solutions, the exclusive UK and Ireland sales representatives for Brooks Instrument.

The Model 4800 Series now has digital communications via RS-232 and a downport connection option: the main product features are as follows:.

* RS-232 Digital Communication.

This one-to-one communication protocol allows the customer to provide a setpoint and receive the process value, select one of nine gases for the calibration curve, access the valve override function, and access the re-zero function.

The RS-232 protocol comes built-in to the product as part of its standard package.

* Downport Option.

Optional downport connections are now available on the Model 4800 Mass Flow Meter/Controller.

In order to keep the advantage of the 4800 Series small footprint, Brooks utilised a proprietary standard downport option.

This option allows top mounting for ease of maintenance and installation and also offers additional space savings over traditional mountings because there is no point-to-point tubing necessary.

This option will be very attractive for customers who place a premium on space and ease of maintenance.

* RoHS Compliance.

The RoHS Directive places restrictions on the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.

The Directive bans new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, and certain other materials from being distributed in the EU.

In Europe and Asia, customers also ask and require devices to be RoHS compliant.
