The Hydraulic Institute is the largest association of pump producers and suppliers in North America.
The Institute serves member companies and end-users by developing comprehensive industry standards, providing education and tools, and operating as a forum for information on pumps and pumping systems.

The president of the Hydraulic Institute works with the Institute staff and board to support its mission of serving the interests of member companies and pump users worldwide.

"The Hydraulic Institute is the industry's primary forum for the exchange of pump industry information for management decision making, and an influential participant in the setting of domestic and international standards.

Prior to serving as president of Flowserve Pumps, a position he has held since 2003, Ferguson was president of Flowserve Flow Solutions.
Before that, he spent nine years in various sales, marketing, technical and general management positions within Flow Solutions.
Ferguson began his career with BW/IP in 1987, where he held positions in sales and marketing in the seals and pump divisions.
He has also held key positions in the oil-field services sector, including nine years in sales, marketing and technical roles with companies such as Nowsco Well Service (now part of BJ Services), BJ Hughes (now part of Baker Hughes), and Zwick Energy Research.
Ferguson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial distribution and technology from Texas A and M University.
