Stored energy from liquid or gas locked in a process system, once a valve has been closed, can represent a serious hazard downstream if equipment is being maintained Flowserve Flow Control (UK) has introduced a special ball valve that provides a positive release of downstream energy when the valve is closed, which minimises this risk

Based on the Worcester Series 44 three-piece design, the valve uses a ball and seat combination that allows normal flow when open, but automatically discharges downstream pressure when closed through a vent in the base of the valve.

Typical applications for this product would encompass any system where stored energy could represent a hazard during maintenance, such as conveyor systems, steam feed lines, compressed gases etc.

For the additional safety of maintenance personnel, Flowserve recommends the self-venting valve is used in conjunction with its new lockable wrench, which provides tamper-proof integrity once the valve has been locked.
