Flow-Mon - the leading UK manufacturer of fluid flow monitors - has launched the 'i-Mon' flow monitoring system, introducing 'Intelligent Monitoring' on simple mechanical flow indicators

Flow-Mon - the leading UK manufacturer of fluid flow monitors - has launched the 'i-Mon' flow monitoring system, introducing 'Intelligent Monitoring'.

'i - Mon' units can be fitted to the existing range of Flow-Mon flow indicators to measure fluid flow in pipes sized between 1/4 inch - 8 inches, to produce 4-20mA electrical signals proportional to fluid flow.

'i-Mon' uses state of the art, non-contact position sensing technology to sense the flow indication and store the critical flow calibration data for each unit.

Special high stability position sensors identify over 1000 points across the full range and maintain repeatability ratings (<0.02%) throughout the temperature range of -45C to +85C.

Nathan Smith, Flow-Mon Managing Director said: "The idea behind i-Mon is the same as the idea behind the IPOD: mechanical components and systems are complemented with much more reliable and functionality rich software and electronics.

This gives us much greater measurement performance and the opportunity to add value to our products".

Initial launch units have already been shipped to USA, Italy and South Africa.

Christian Freeman, Flow-Mon Commercial Manager commented: "We're absolutely delighted with the initial feedback from the market: our customers are keen to get away from the old-fashioned potentiometer systems that are still being pushed by some other indicator companies".

* Non Contact - unlike other products, i-Mon's measurement principle has no wear problems or electrical contacts to go wrong.

This is especially important for pulsating flow, which may cause some parts of potentiometer systems to wear out and require periodic replacement.

* No friction - because 'i-Mon' is non-contact: this means that there is no stiction, or frictional loading problems from the measurement system to affect measurements at low flow.

* Absolute measurement - there is no problem if power is disconnected and reconnected.

* Robust construction - long life without problems! Unlike competing products, even if the 'i-Mon' gets dusty, dirty or even temporarily wet, 'i-Mon' will continue to operate reliably.

* Reduced hysteresis.

* Smart - the one time factory calibration is stored in the electronic memory, to configure the characteristics of that unique unit.

* Accurate - Over 1000 distinct measurement points identifiable over the full-scale deflection.

* High resolution measurement - the sensor can indicate changes in flow before the eye can.

* Reverse polarity protection - easy electrical installation.
