Foster Wheeler Energy has won the coveted Five Star Health and Safety Audit Award from the BSC for their site in Karratha, Western Australia, adding a fifth liquefaction train to the LNG complex

Foster Wheeler Energy part of the Global Engineering and Construction Group, has won the coveted Five Star Health and Safety Audit Award from the British Safety Council for one of its international engineering, procurement and construction projects, following a rigorous audit.

The Five Star audit is a service provided by the British Safety Council.

Following a comprehensive safety evaluation from highly experienced auditors, organizations are given star ratings - from one to five, five being the top rating -- to indicate the effectiveness of their safety programmes.

The audit can help organizations reduce accidents and improve productivity by identifying their health and safety strengths and weaknesses.

"A British Safety Council audit of the construction health, safety and environmental management system and processes and their implementation was carried out at site in Karratha, Western Australia, where Foster Wheeler is currently leading the joint venture, adding a fifth liquefaction train to the Woodside-operated North West Shelf LNG complex," said Stephen King, divisional director, construction operations, for Foster Wheeler Energy: "We are delighted with the results of this audit.

Foster Wheeler achieved a Five Star rating, with an audit score of 97 percent.

Organizations have to achieve a score greater than 92 percent from the audit to achieve a Five Star rating.

This outstanding result demonstrates the genuine commitment to world-class safety of everyone involved in this project and that our `nobody gets hurt' safety culture is firmly embedded within our company".

David Ballard, chief executive of the British Safety Council, commented: "I hope other companies will take the lead from Foster Wheeler and forge the way towards a safer future with a Five Star award.".
