Flir has published a handbook for those investing in infrared for research and development applications.
It guides the reader through the principles of infrared detection and measurement then compares the different detector types, cooling methods and focal plane array assemblies.

Subsequent sections advise on getting the most from an infrared camera, covering subjects such as typical camera measurement functions, emissivity correction and the use of filters to extend the scope of application.
The final chapter addresses recent advances in ultra-speed thermography and the application potential of short integration times and pre-set sequencing.
It also covers the importance of a fast pixel clock and multiple channels.
This guidebook is 44 A5-pages long and is available for free from the Flir UK sales office.
