Major BioPharma plant has 11 flow
calibration rigs
To meet validation requirements on a major Irish BioPharmaceutical plant, Flowmeter Systems supplied 11 flowmeter calibration rigs, to cover wide ranges of liquid and gas flows
One the world's largest biopharmaceutical companies is nearing completion of a new production facility in Ireland This plant has a multitude of flow meters on site for their critical measurements of various gases and liquids, which require a programme of calibration and documentation to comply with the plant validation requirements

It was clear to the instrumentation management staff that the flow meter calibration task was going to be a major ongoing activity.
Flowmeter Systems had already supplied three flow calibration rigs, complete with accredited calibrations, to the construction calibration team at the start of 2003.
These were used for calibrating flowmeters and vessel capacities.

As the plant was being handed over to the instrumentation department, it became clear that more flow calibration rigs would be required to complete the validation programme.
They also needed accredited gas flow calibration equipment on-site, and as soon as possible.
The instrumentation department therefore requested Flowmeter Systems, Irelands only accredited flow calibration company, to construct, supply and calibrate rigs for their full calibration requirement of process liquid and gas flow measurements, and also vessel volumes.
All calibration and test equipment supplied to the site needs to have a current accredited calibration.
All calibration rigs designed and manufactured by Flowmeter Systems use the highly accurate Micro Motion Coriolis Mass Flow Meter as the standard.
The rigs are then calibrated by an accredited flow laboratory such as Flowmeter Systems themselves, or, if the flow range is outside their scope such as for the gas rigs, other European accredited flow laboratories are used.
Of the thee gas calibration rigs supplied, one was a standard product of Brooks Instruments, part of Emerson Process Management, for which Flowmeter Systems Ltd are the representatives in Ireland.
This rig is the certified (accredited) volume type, and is used for calibration and proving at very low gas flow rates.
The other two gas rigs were built by Flowmeter Systems using the Micro Motion Elite sensor as the standard: an accredited gas calibration was performed on both, but an additional liquid accredited calibration was performed on the larger of these two rigs.
This dual fluid calibration rig is believed to be the only one in Europe with accredited calibration for both liquid and gas, performed on the one flow sensor.
Flowmeter Systems have now supplied eleven calibration rigs to the plant, covering liquid flow ranges from 0.5 kg/min to 4533 kg/min, and gas flow ranges from 0.001 nL/min to 1660 nL/min.
