Advanced UV disinfection unveiled at
IWEX
Engineers at GB Environmental have developed a number of patented technologies that maximise both the efficiency and effectiveness of UV disinfection
The Essex based manufacturer unveiled the new techniques at IWEX in early May and Sales/Marketing Director Ralph Coney reports extremely high levels of interest resulting, adding "There were a number of trade stands at IWEX showing UV disinfection equipment, so visitors were keen to find the most effective disinfection technology - and they found it on our stand One of the most important features of our UV technology is the patented lamp cleaning technique that we employ - that may sound mundane, but it is highly sophisticated and has a radical effect on disinfection efficiency"

Cryptosporidium Warning: UK lags in UV use
UV water treatment expert Malcolm Snowball, Technical Director at GB Environmental, is dismayed that another Cryptosporidium alert was issued in the UK this week, and suggests a review of UV systems
The unique catalytic-oxidation process employed by the GB Environmental 'Safeguard' range uses cleaning heads that revolve around the lamps and react with fouling material to keep the tubes spotlessly clean; bond-breaking without the need for additional chemicals.
Four PTFE segments are sprung-loaded around each quartz tube and the corners of each segment scour the quartz as they are being driven both radially and axially.
Inside the scrapers are two Tioxi-springs.
These gauze pads produce a unique catalytic process to cleanse the outside of the tube of any remaining fouling or scale, even in hard water areas.
The cleansing mechanism acts as a static mixer, producing high turbulence with a low pressure drop, dramatically reducing power consumption and increasing efficiency.
This, coupled with spectrally-enhanced Amalgam lamps that require less power than medium pressure lamps, provides significant cost savings because GB Environmental UV disinfection equipment operates with a substantially lower energy requirement than competitive systems.
GB Environmental is one of the world's most technologically advanced manufacturers of UV technology, providing unbeatable non-chemical disinfection of water, air and surfaces.
The company's advanced patented techniques ensure maximum protection against contagious diseases including Cryptosporidium and Legionella in water.
In addition to the providers of drinking water, GB Environmental customers also include swimming pool/jacuzzi suppliers, food/beverage companies and local authority leisure facilities.
