Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Aug 22, 2007

GE Inspection Technologies has signed an agreement to acquire phoenix|x-ray, a leader in high-resolution computed tomography (CT) / X-Ray technology used in non-destructive testing (NDT) applications

The transaction will be completed upon receipt of regulatory approvals.

The acquisition will broaden the GE offerings for NDT customers in various industries, including aerospace, power generation, oil and gas and automotive, by adding the phoenix|x-ray innovative 3D CT, micro and nano-technology systems to the current X-Ray and non-destructive testing portfolio of GE Inspection Technologies.

In addition, phoenix|x-ray customers in both the industrial and microelectronics segment will benefit from the GE global presence, technology depth and broad range of NDT products, systems and services.

"phoenix|x-ray has a strong reputation in the non-destructive testing world and is a highly complementary addition to the GE Inspection Technologies X-Ray product line," said Caroline Reda, President and CEO of GE Inspection Technologies: "The acquisition will enhance the GE technology capabilities in X-Ray testing machines, add CT capability to the product line, and is consistent with our mission to provide customers with a broad portfolio of high-tech and valuable non-destructive testing solutions".

phoenix|x-ray is a manufacturer of high-resolution 2D X-ray inspection systems and 3D computed tomography systems for non-destructive testing.

Since its inception in 1999, phoenix|xray has grown to employ a global staff of more than 100 employees.

The company headquarters, including production, research and development, are located in Wunstorf, Germany, near the city of Hanover.

Additional service centres are located in Stuttgart, Munich, St Petersburg (USA) and Manila (Philippines).
