Intelligent IR combustible gas detector
is SIL 2
With microprocessor-based intelligence and a true-fail-to-safe design, the advanced IR2100 Infrared Point Gas Detector is now rated SIL 2 suitable
The IR2100 is designed for operation in the most demanding applications found in oil/gas production, chemical processing, wastewater treatment and other process industries where combustible gases pose a potential explosive threat to people, equipment and facilities The adoption of the SIL standard is increasingly widespread in the oil/gas, petrochemical and other process industries in response to the development of safety equipment designed with next-generation electronics

Advanced combustible gas detectors from GM
Highly intelligent combustible gas detectors suitable for hazardous environment processes in demanding industries offer performance suitable for incorporation in SIL3 systems
SIL is a measure of process safety system performance, in terms of probability of failure on demand (PFD).
This convention was chosen because it is easier to express the probability of failure rather than that of proper performance.
There are four discrete integrity levels associated with SIL: SIL 1, SIL 2, SIL 3, and SIL 4.

The higher the SIL level, the higher the associated safety level, and the lower probability that a system will fail to perform properly.
As the SIL level increases, typically the installation and maintenance costs and complexity of the system also increase.
The IR2100 Detector is an infrared point hydrocarbon gas detector that is suitable for SIL 2 applications: it is CE marked, and is certified by FM, CSA, ATEX, and GOST.
The highly intelligent IR2100 continuously monitors hydrocarbon gases and vapours within the lower explosive limit (LEL).
It features a true fail-to-safe operational design for superior performance without relying on a sintered flame arrestor, which can clog and degrade performance.
The IR2100 gas detector sensor measures the absorption of IR radiation passing through gas using a dual beam, single-detector method of operation.
The IR detector measures the intensity of two specific wavelengths: one at a reference absorption wavelength and the other outside of the absorption band.
The combustible gas concentration is determined by comparing these two values.
The IR2100 gas detection sensor features heated IR optics, which eliminate condensation for superior detection reliability.
Its microprocessor logic also allows it to discriminate between dirty optics that require cleaning and other potential faults.
The detector operates with a 4-20mA analogue output that is proportional to 0 to 100% LEL gas concentration.
All electronics are contained within an explosion-proof housing so that the IR2100 detector information can be processed locally.
RS-485 serial communications are Modbus RTU compatible.
The RS-485 output provides status, alarm, fault and other information for operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the unit.
