Steam trap designed for any 'Quick-fit'
connector
Gardner Energy Management has updated its Emerald range of steam traps with a trap set that is much lighter, and easier to maintain, for repetitive load capacity applications
The new trap has been specifically produced for repetitive load capacity applications where there is an extensive use of drip legs and trace heating systems, as used extensively in the chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries The simplified Emerald is more flexible in orientation and fits all universal, 'quick-fit', bolt-on pipeline 'connectors'

Flexsys 5 month payback on GEM traps
Ruabon Works, a specialist chemicals manufacturing site of Flexsys Rubber Chemicals, is making steam savings of 12% from its batch reactor following installation of GEM Venturi Orifice steam traps
This obviates the need for pipework alterations and the costs associated in fitting of new traps - a particular problem in hazardous areas where production would need to be shut down for pipework modifications to be carried out.
Completely manufactured from corrosion resistant stainless steel, the hardwearing GEM Emerald is equipped with an integral strainer manufactured from reinforced mesh.
Guaranteed for 10 years, the steam traps have been designed to withstand pressures up to 100 bar (1450 psi) and have been hydraulically tested to 200 bar (2900 psi).
Like all other models of GEM Steam Traps, the Emerald uses the highly efficient venturi orifice design to effectively drain condensate from the steam system.
The GEM Trap was patented in 1995 and unlike mechanical traps that use valve mechanisms, it has no moving parts to wedge open or fail.
It therefore provides the ultimate in reliability necessitating only minimal maintenance and requiring no spares, testing or monitoring equipment.
Changeover to GEM Traps provides a fast payback - on some processes within a matter of days - from reduced energy costs and increased equipment reliability due to a reduction in damaging condensate in steam systems.
In addition it improves product processing by enhancing the quality of steam and also reducing equipment repairs, downtime and replacement costs.
The rising cost of fuel is coupled with a raft of regulations concerning energy conservation and carbon emissions.
Yet it is calculated that British industry wastes an astonishing GBP3billion a year in energy costs purely through steam loss caused by mechanical steam traps leaking precious steam when open or backing up condensate.
With the GEM Emerald there is no steam loss through a trap, fuel is conserved, reliability improved, downtime reduced and safety increased.
