Networking technology has key to lower oil prices
Against a background of rapidly increasing oil prices, petrol prices at record highs and heating bills spiralling upwards, the government is now asking what can be done to bring oil prices back down
Designed and manufactured for performance, the 6K range from GarrettCom are the only products on the market offering modular slots for user selection of 10Mb, 100Mb, 1Gb, and mixed media ranging from copper through single-mode and multi-mode fibre with any fibre connector type.
Fibre is an important medium in telecommunications applications where it is chosen for noise immunity, distance, and ground-loop avoidance.
"The configurability and small footprint of the 6K16V was so popular that our telecom clients requested a version of the product that is designed for central office and other industrial-grade implementations," said Frank Madren, GarrettCom President.

Gigabit fibre connectivity for industrial networks
GarrettCom Europe has developed an innovative industrial Ethernet converter switch which provides a ready upgrade to gigabit performance without compromising on transmission distance
Unparalleled network performance and management is key facet of the 6K16 which features software and hardware alarm support, standards-compatible support for self-healing rings, gigabit backbone configurability, and a wide array of security features such as authentication and encryption.
The next-generation switch is easily adaptable to performance and cabling upgrades as users adopt increasingly sophisticated high-bandwidth technologies.
The 6K16 offers heightened security as a part of its access to all the high-end features of GarrettCom MNS-6K software, including a wide variety of LAN management and security software including console-level authentication and per-port IP-address-level security.
In addition to a hardware alarm that measures power to the main board and sends an alarm if the switch stops, a companion software alarm allows the user to set up an alarm based on any software event.
For example, the software alarm can be set up to provide important security monitoring, allowing alarms to be sent should an unauthorised person attempt to access the system, or if a configuration change occurs.
With SMTP, the MNS-6K software can trigger an e-mail message when an alarm condition occurs.
The 6K16 switch comes with fan cooling and rack mount hardware, and is NEBS and ETSI rated.
Two of the compact 6K16 switches can be mounted side-by-side in a 19" rack for redundancy and hot backup systems in mission-critical applications.
Roughly the size of a hardback novel (24.1cm H x 22.2cm W x 4.4cm D), the Magnum 6K16 can be configured with any of the telecommunications industry DC power options, including dual source -48VDC.
Worldwide AC power is also available.
