A new addition to the Embedded PC range from Beckoff offers customers the best of two worlds; high performance and a compact design

A new addition to the Embedded PC range from Beckoff, offers customers the best of two worlds; high performance and a compact design Called the CX1020, it is available exclusively in the UK from Hayes Control Systems

Offering higher CPU performance, the CX1020 also has a direct connection for EtherCAT I/O terminals.

In combination with EtherCAT as the fieldbus, it offers response times of less than one millisecond, thereby opening up new application options and scope for process improvement.

Boasting a 600 MHz Intel Celeron M CPU, the CX1020 is fanless and requires no rotating media due to the use of Compact Flash.

Like all PCs from the CX controller series, the CX1020 features a modular case and assembly concept with components that can be ordered separately.

In its basic configuration, the CPU module features two Ethernet ports with integrated 3-port switch that can be used for setting up a line topology with several controllers.

Optionally, further interfaces including DVD/USB can also be added.

"The CX1020 was developed for optimum interaction with EtherCAT", commented Mark Bates, sales and marketing manager at Hayes.

"EtherCAT performance in combination with the fast CPU opens up new application options.

For example, a PLC task with a cycle time of 100 microseconds can always process an updated process image".

In combination with the TwinCAT automation software, the CX1020 becomes a powerful IEC61131-3 compliant PLC with up to four user tasks.

Moreover, motion control tasks can also be executed.

In addition to simple point-to-point movements, special functions such as flying saw, electronic gearbox and cam plate can also be realised.

The CX1020 can execute interpolating 3D path movements and DIN66025 programmes, and is suitable for both Windows CE and Windows XP Embedded.

The CX1020 thus becomes a controller that covers PLC, motion control and visualisation tasks with a single hardware.
