Novel strain gauge wiring for extreme temperatures

A HBM product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Feb 14, 2008

HBM has launched the LC61-3/350 strain gauge with an innovative wiring configuration that allows significant time savings for applications in extreme temperature ranges

The LC61-3/350 has robust solder tabs with strain relief that allows connecting cables to be connected directly to the strain gauge.

Any resistance variations at the strain gauge connection points are compensated by the four-wire configuration.

The temperature response of the strain gauge is matched to either ferritic steel or aluminium in a temperature range of -200C to +250C.

The strain gauge is available in standard measuring grid lengths of 3mm and 6mm, with a resistance of 350ohms.

Different configurations of measuring grid length, resistance, and type are available on request.

The LC61-3/350, significantly reduces the installation time in extreme temperature ranges (-269C to +250C).

This is because they replace the metal foil strain gauges based on chrome-nickel alloy that are often used for these applications and which take longer to connect.
