Hero Electronics announces the introduction of the SHT11 low cost digital humidity and temperature sensor with a simple 2 wire digital interface, the latest addition to the Sensirion range

The SHT11 combines a relative humidity sensor with 2% accuracy and a 0.1C resolution temperature sensor, together with a simple 2 wire digital interface A wider operating temperature range (-40 to 120C) than the existing AH31 sensor extends the application areas, particularly within the automotive industry

All Sensirion sensors use the proprietary CMOSens technology, where the sensor element is part of the CMOS chip and together with the readout circuit and the analogue to digital converter provide a monolithic design.

This provides a fully calibrated and temperature compensated output, with very good long-term stability (<1% RH per year in tests).

Due to the extremely compact system integration, CMOSens sensors are also very resistant to electromagnetic interference.

The SHT11 is in an SMD package, just 7.5 x 5 x 2.5mm and has a wide supply voltage of 2.4 to 5.5V with a low shutdown current consumption of less than 0.3microAmps; this making it ideal for battery powered applications.

Important additional features are that the sensors are fully interchangeable without recalibration and are fully immersible.

Target application areas include: climate control of sensitive freight or buildings (HVAC), automotive functions (cabin air and motor control), testing and measuring devices, process automation or medical testing.
