Hima-Sella simplifies Syngenta production line

A Hima-Sella product story

Hima-Sella has won a contract to manufacture power and distribution panels, within weeks of securing the initial order for instrument racks for a production-line expansion project.

This GBP40,000 order follows the GBP300,000 contract, awarded in April by Jacobs Engineering UK, for the manufacture of 12 open-framed instrument racks for a third Amistar production line (AZ3) for Syngenta, one of the world's leading agribusinesses.

In a GBP75m investment programme that will create 50 new jobs, Syngenta is expanding its Grangemouth manufacturing facility in Scotland over the next three years to increase production of azoxystrobin, the active ingredient in Amistar, a fungicide.

The expansion is driven by the need to meet increasing global food-supply demands.

Hima-Sella was selected by Jacobs Engineering UK for both contracts because of its experience of installing Emerson DeltaV equipment as well as its robust quality assurance, project management and documentation capabilities.

The instrument rack construction is based on an existing design used on two previous production lines (AZ1 and AZ2).

Each instrument rack contains a 40-slot Emerson DeltaV Distributed Control System (DCS) complete with SIS I/O for safety-critical interlocks and Profibus communications.

Each DeltaV I/O module interfaces with the hazardous-area instrumentation on the plant via MTL 4000 series IS barriers mounted on eight-way backplanes.

The modular approach simplifies future plant expansion by allowing new I/O to be introduced by plugging an IS barrier into a backplane, which in turn is plugged into a DeltaV I/O module.
