One of the world's leading producers of activated carbon has installed a complete turnkey milling and process control system from Hosokawa Micron to give them unmanned production 24/7
The new Pharmapaktor Series C is designed specifically to meet the demands of the pharmaceutical industry including all exacting qualification and validation requirements.
The press agglomeration operating principle of the Pharmapaktor, where material is forced through two counter rotating rollers and the combination of the high pressures and Van der Waals forces produces a compacted product.
The shape of this is determined by the roll surface, smooth surfaces producing flakes and fluted ones, granules.

Modern pharmaceutical plants are no longer single product facilities, the ideal is a highly flexible multi purpose plant, which can process several high value products in the one fully validated unit
Isolator technology for wet chemical synthesis
Companies operating in the wet processing field of chemical synthesis now have access to innovative barrier containment systems when safeguarding personnel from potentially hazardous substances
Horizontal feed screws dose the material into a vertical pre-densification screw from which the actual controlled feed to the compacting rolls takes place.
Vacuum de-aeration is applied to the nip area of the rolls in order to achieve a higher efficiency and reduce the amount of fines.
The exhaust air system is equipped with a HEPA filter.
To protect heat sensitive materials the compacting rolls and cheek plates are both cooled.
Final flake crushing is incorporated in an efficient, gentle, two stage process where the speed and rotation angle are adjustable.
Different rotor types combined with different mesh types produce consistent granular materials to suit individual specifications.
Accessories such as drives, electric cabinet, cooling water supply and vacuum pump are located at the rear and are hygienically covered in a dust tight enclosure.
The roll gap is adjusted and regulated electromechanically for exact reproducibility.
Containment and Cleaning.
The product area is encapsulated in a negative pressure environment.
A safety glass door with double lip seal ensures good accessibility.
During operation the containment level is supervised by a limit switch.
All product surfaces are plain with no gaps and a minimum of single components.
Screws and nuts have mainly been replaced by push fit components and quick release fasteners.
A Pharmapaktor built to a special 'through the wall' design is available, with all mechanical and electrical services out of the cleanroom area to facilitate maintenance and ensure product integrity.
The Pharmapaktor Series C is available in three sizes and is available in single units or as part of a system incorporating vacuum transport, screening and flake crushing.
