During the building of a new hospital wing engineers moved the existing boiler system to the new building but left the 75mm (3'') supplies to the old boilers hanging from the ceiling with an isolation valve at the bottom.

This exposed the pipework and the inevitable happened when a forklift collided with one of the lines causing serious damage.

Urgently requiring a repair the fastest solution was to freeze the lower end of the pipe, cut and prepare it and attach a new valve.

This avoided the hospital the embarrassment of having to close down the entire building during repairs.

Back in the heat of an August day a prison was experiencing difficulties with one of two air conditioning units and this necessitated immediate replacement.

Unfortunately the 100 mm supply line fed both of the existing chillers.

Closing-off the air conditioning to the prison, with the consequent rapid temperature rise internally, could have led to a dangerous situation with over 200 inmates.

The decision was made to freeze the supply as it branched to the defective chiller, allowing the primary unit to continue to operate and cool the facility at least a tolerable level.

The entire operation was completed using a Quik-Freeze 4000 kit in 2 hours and went so smoothly that the primary cooler was also changed on the same day, as a precaution.
