Viscometer helps to keep polycarbonate
flowing

Hydramotion has introduced a new model of its XL7 online viscometer, specifically designed for use in the monitoring of polycarbonate melts

This latest addition to the extensive XL7 range is designed for mounting in a nozzle at an elbow in the melt pipe with the sensing element pointing directly into the full flow of the molten polycarbonate material The crevice-free sensor shaft is specially widened to fill the nozzle, with sealing effected by a metal O-ring compression seal halfway along the shaft rather than back at the process fitting

In this way the chances of material entrapment in the nozzle are virtually zero, minimising the risk of contamination.

The XL7 Polycarbonate Viscometer measures viscosities up to 10 million centipoise (100,000 poise) regardless of flow rate, and can run at temperatures as high as 450C (842F) without requiring any special cooling.

The advantage is that the transducer does not affect the temperature of the melt and thereby alter its viscosity.

The solid sensor withstands pressures of 168 bar (2500 psi) or more, and is shaped to present minimal disruption to flow.

The instrument naturally rejects typical plant vibration frequencies, giving a very high output stability with high sensitivity and excellent repeatability, even in extremely noisy industrial environments.

The Intrinsically Safe version is ATEX and Cenelec certified for use in Zone 0 Hazardous Areas (explosive atmosphere continuously present).

As with all Hydramotion viscometers, the XL7 Polycarbonate Viscometer requires no on-site calibration by the user, as calibration is completely unaffected by installation or environment.

It is only necessary to complete the simple wiring, bolt on and the viscometer is ready for use. Request a free brochure from Hydramotion ...
