Avantis has announced that Green Bay Packaging will deploy the Avantis Enterprise Asset Management solution to improve equipment performance and inventory control and reduce overall operating expenses

The Avantis unit of Invensys has announced that Green Bay Packaging will deploy the Avantis Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) solution to improve equipment performance and inventory control, and reduce overall operating expenses Green Bay Packaging company officials expect that the installation will pay for itself within six months, while setting the stage for long-term enterprise efficiency

"Within six months after installing Avantis, we expect to significantly shrink inventory, increase production equipment reliability, and improve all resource scheduling and planning," said Ben Coyle, Green Bay Packaging project engineer and EAM project manager.

"We are also using Avantis to automate our purchasing, which among other things will enable us to make much better use of historical data in managing and selecting vendors.

Invensys took the time to truly evaluate our needs in all of these areas and provide a solution that was right on target," said Coyle.

"An additional benefit in using Avantis is that we can achieve even greater gains through integration with our Foxboro I/A Series automation system.

We will be able to monitor production equipment, maintenance, and operations in real time, which will significantly improve long-term enterprise efficiencies," said Coyle.

Green Bay Packaging is a diversified manufacturer of paperboard packaging, pressure sensitive label stock, building and lumber products, and folding cartons.

The company is implementing the Avantis solution at its Morrilton, Arkansas Kraft facility to reduce inventory, optimise capital assets, and improve the efficiency of materials management and maintenance.

It will interface with the existing Green Bay Packaging financial application and replace the maintenance and inventory control software.

Partnering with Invensys to provide the Green Bay Packaging solution are Inventory Management Analysis (IMA), headquartered in Tillsonburg, Ontario, Canada; and Performance Consulting Associates (PCA), Duluth, GA.

IMA will assist Green Bay Packaging in cleaning its MRO inventory and building an electronic catalogue while simultaneously completing an MRO item analysis to identify the ROI from inventory reduction and identification of spot buys.

PCA will develop a preconfigured Best Business Practices model for asset reliability, which includes work identification, job planning, outage coordination and job scheduling.

These pre-defined practices, procedures and processes will be implemented in parallel with the roll out of the Avantis solution.

PCA will also develop a Green Bay Packaging asset reliability model, which documents such functions as work flows, business rules, codes, roles and responsibilities.

"Green Bay Packaging is a very forward-thinking company with a clear vision for achieving quality, innovation, and total customer satisfaction.

The Avantis solution is based on fully understanding the Green Bay Packaging vision and providing tailored asset management technology to achieve immediate benefits and payback, with long-term enterprise efficiency," said Ryan Roberts, vice president of Invensys Avantis unit.
