Technical training in Manchester
Earthing, Bonding, Lightning and Surge Protection of Electrical and Electronic Systems and Equipment: and Fundamentals of OPC are two planned Manchester training courses
July, August and September - the UK summer months - are traditionally quiet months for training.
IDC Technologies has found, however, that Manchester, being centrally located geographically, with a buzzing manufacturing sector and a culture of learning, continues to utilise technical training, summer holidays or not.
July courses were well attended, August was disappointing, but bookings have been coming in for the two workshops scheduled for the end of September.
The first is Earthing, Bonding, Lightning and Surge Protection of Electrical and Electronic Systems and Equipment.
It is to run on the 26th and 27th September and the second is Fundamentals of OPC (OLE for Process Control) which is to be presented on the 29th and 30th.
The venue for both is the Hotel Smokies Park, in Manchester.
The first workshop is designed to demystify the subject of grounding and presents the subject in a clear, straightforward manner.
Installation, testing and inspection procedures for industrial and commercial power systems will be examined in detail.
Essentially this course is broken down into grounding, shielding and surge protection for both power and electronics systems.
Grounding and surge protection for Telecommunications and IT systems will also be covered in detail.
Finally, the impact of lightning is examined and simple techniques for minimizing its impact are described.
The second workshop, OPC, or OLE for Process Control, has come a long way in making the engineer's dream of plug-and-play compatibility in automation engineering achievable.
OPC is an industry wide standard that breaks this proprietary lock by allowing open connectivity based on the principles adapted from widely accepted and applied 'Microsoft Windows' integration standards.
OPC capabilities have been demonstrated in many practical applications and it is now a very well established approach for different competing manufacturers.
It is now also considered the standard interface in the Windows environment.
To reduce the costs of installing and maintaining an automation system OPC is the way to go.
This workshop provides the necessary tools to understand and apply OPC to a plant.
A valuable overview of OLE for Process Control (OPC) is given which explains why it is the standard of choice for data access in automation systems.
Delegates will be exposed to and understand the essential components of OPC based on typical applications.
The course covers the installation of servers and how they are then accessed by clients.
The interaction between OPC and DCOM will be discussed in practical detail.
The latest trends and future developments with OPC in the US and in Europe will also be detailed.
