Prof Sir Graeme Catto, distinguished doctor and lecturer, will deliver his presentation entitled "Man, Medicines and Machines" at the jointly organised IEE/AIME Prestige Lecture and Dinner on 12 November at 6 pm at the IEE in Savoy Place.
"Public interest in medicine was stimulated by the scientific discoveries of the 19th century with the benefits of anaesthesia and the advancements in surgery and medicine," says Prof Catto: "today a better educated public understands the risks as well as the benefits of modern medicine.
However, retaining public confidence in the process is essential".
According to many experts, including Prof Catto, future developments in medicine are likely to require a sophisticated multi-professional approach, including engineering and technological expertise.
An insightful talk about the shortcomings in healthcare delivery and technology, Prof Catto explores attitudes and expectations as well as the technical and commercial difficulties in the UK.
