IET supports zero carbon-emission motorbike race

An IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Jun 10, 2009

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is supporting TTXGP, the world's first zero carbon-emission motorcycle race.

Cutting-edge green technology can capture the public's imagination and help ignite their enthusiasm to take on the race and to tackle environmental issues.

That is the belief of IET, the official technical advisor to TTXGP, which will take place on the Isle of Man on 12 June.

Twenty-three teams from seven countries will compete against the traditional combustion-engine motorbikes.

Nigel Fine, chief executive of IET, said: 'We believe that young people need to be inspired about engineering and see it as a creative profession.

'Through initiatives such as TTXGP, we hope to rekindle excitement in the classroom and ignite the spark that will re-engage students in science, engineering and technology.

'Climate change challenges all depend critically on engineering solutions to bring about large-scale change.

'In order to deal with them, we need suitably qualified scientists, engineers and technologists.

'Investment in skills needs to be kept high on the agenda if supply is to meet demand.
