Shell Bonga FPSO operator training simulators

Invensys Performance Solutions Group based in Crawley are in the process of delivering an operator training simulator for the Shell Bonga FPSO.

Shell Bonga, at present moored in Teesside, is having topside modules fitted and tested prior to delivery 120km off the coast of West Africa.

The training simulator is currently being developed in Crawley, using Invensys OTS software architecture.

Invensys is the main automation vendor for this project, delivering the distributed control system (Foxboro I/A Series), the triple redundant safety and emergency fire and gas system (Triconex TMR), and the operator training simulator.

The simulator has provided pre-commissioning control system checkout, process design verification and a high fidelity operator training.

The installation combines SIM4ME, the Simsci-Esscor world-class simulation executive for high fidelity process modelling and operator training.

The OTS also features FSIM Plus, the Foxboro I/A Series DCS simulation tool, and Trisim Plus, the Triconex TMR ESD and turbo-machinery emulation tool to provide a high-fidelity operator training simulator.

Subsequent project wins for several more OTS systems also destined for offshore West Africa will also feature Dynsim, the Simsci-Esscor world-class simulation software for high fidelity dynamic process modelling.

These training simulators provide life-cycle project benefits and deliver value to Invensys clients, through process design, DCS/ESD validation, start up operator training, and post commissioning plant optimisation.
