Nabil Kassem is the new Vice President and General Manager for Invensys Process Systems Middle East: a veteran of both the oil and gas and IT industries Nabil has wide-ranging international experience

Nabil Kassem is the new Vice President and General Manager for Invensys Process Systems Middle East Reporting to Patrick Buffet, Managing Director of Invensys Process Systems in Europe, Kassem is a veteran of both the oil and gas and IT industries, bringing wide-ranging international experience, particularly of the Middle East

He also brings expertise in operations, management, marketing, sales, professional services and consulting.

Kassem's Middle East experience began in 1980 when, as a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Birmingham University in England, he joined Abu-Dhabi based Total-Zadco as a petroleum engineer.

Later he returned to England to study for a Master of Engineering degree in analysis and design of control systems, before joining Schlumberger as a field engineer in Indonesia.

After promotion to various technical, marketing and management positions throughout the Asia-Pacific region, he transferred to GeoQuest.

When GeoQuest became the software and data management division of Schlumberger, he led its marketing sales and business development efforts in Asia Pacific and then in Canada.

In 2000 Kassem moved to Houston after being promoted to VP for Global Sales with Schlumberger Information Solutions (SIS).

In 2002 he transferred to Dubai to take the position of SIS Vice President and General Manager for the Middle East and Asia Pacific region, where he worked on transforming and growing the business until his new appointment with Invensys.

With growth in its Middle East business of nearly 70% in 2004, Kassem believes that Invensys is poised for even greater success in the region that he knows so well.

"2005 is already bringing us many interesting opportunities for both new and existing projects," he said.

"This is especially true for our LNG operations.

About 70% of all gas liquefaction trains use Invensys technologies and we have an installed base here in the Middle East worth over US$500m.

I believe we are well placed to win further LNG contracts, while our other priorities include olefins, power, exploration and production," he concluded.
