The Invensys project was awarded by main contractor Foster Wheeler Iberica and involved the engineering, construction and start-up of a DCS with 806 communication signals and an ESD with 520.
All ESD modules are triple modular redundant.
Similarly, the Invensys I/A Series System Version 8 is also fully redundant to help ensure maximum availability.
Both the DCS and the ESD are housed in a prefabricated shelter based 300 metres from the main control room.
In order to maintain the correct microclimate in the sometimes harsh Lithuanian weather conditions, its walls, floor and roof are insulated with a 7.5cm coat of fire retardant polyurethane.
The shelter also contains marshalling cabinets, I/O cards, controllers and other equipment.
Communication with the main control room is via redundant fibre optic systems.
Invensys Systems Iberica was helped with both DCS and ESD system configuration by Invensys Systems Argentina.
Meanwhile, in an excellent example of company cooperation, Invensys Systems Moscow is in charge of training courses for refinery staff.
