With over 3000 abstracts submitted from authors in 72 countries WCCE7 is set to be Europe's largest ever stand-alone meeting of the process community.
The congress opens in Glasgow on Sunday 10 July 2005 and IChemE is determined to deliver an event that goes beyond a conference that is focused purely on research.
Right Here, Right Now, supported by leading process contractor, ABB, will look at current challenges facing chemical engineers in industry and provide a valuable opportunity for an honest dialogue with the international research community.
Professor Keith Guy, theme leader for Right Here, Right Now, explains, "Industry colleagues often tell me that they simply don't have time to attend conferences that are little more than academic jamborees! There is little benefit in spending hours in a room full of chemical engineers talking chemical engineering unless the discussion is grounded on commercial reality.
Right Here, Right Now has been incorporated into the WCCE7 programme to avoid this pitfall.
"Industry focussed submissions are invited in the form of short contributions based around presentations of not more than 10 slides delivered in a 10-minute presentation slot.
Hot topics will include.
* Profiting from innovation - creating opportunities, securing finance, identifying markets, generating a return.
* Living with regulation - how to make a profit in a regulated world.
* Competence or incompetence - skills needed and where to find them.
"I am looking for contributions that will complement or perhaps contrast the leading edge research that will be presented at WCCE7.
Undoubtedly, sparks will fly, but the dialogue will challenge and stimulate chemical engineers in industry and academia," concluded Guy.
Right Here, Right Now will offer industrial stakeholders an opportunity to showcase significant and specific activities that have generated or facilitated progress towards profitable and sustainable business.
The deadline for abstract submissions is January 14 2005.
