Invitations to participate in a series of industry-led spotlight sessions at the 7th World Congress of Chemical Engineering (WCCE7) will be issued this week
Symposium organiser, Mike Adams, says the event offers the opportunity for the experiences of the individual to be brought to a larger audience: 'The theme of this conference is to prevent accidents and promote environmental protection in the process industries.
To do this we have to identify hazards and ways to reduce risks.
If we know what went wrong in the past and why, we can see what may go wrong in the future and how it can be prevented'.
Organised by the North-West Branch of IChemE (The Institution of Chemical Engineers), with the backing of HSE and the Environment Agency, the event is sponsored by a range of national and international companies and will highlight the latest thinking by the regulators and industry on recent process safety and environmental regulations.
'Hazards acts as the ideal platform to hear papers by and network with, the regulators, researchers, industrialists and academics,' Adams continued.
The event includes contributions from renowned safety experts Professor Trevor Kletz, Sam Mannan of the Mary Kay O'Connor Process Safety Centre at Texas State University, USA, Geoff Chamberlain from Shell Global Solutions and Andrew Sullivan from the Australian National University.
There will also be 17 papers from the HSE and the Health and Safety Laboratory as well as 2 further presentations on the ConocoPhillips Refinery explosion at South Killingholme from both the HSE and ConocoPhillips' viewpoint.
Hazards was first staged in 1960 in the wake of the rapid expansion of the chemical industries.
Since then, this conference has been held at regular intervals, attracting international contributions and delegates.
