As the manufacturing sector continues to expand in Malaysia, chemical engineers are likely to face new challenges in the industry.
To help chemical engineers meet these challenges, the Institution of Chemical Engineers has opened a new branch in Kuala Lumpur, as from Monday 24th July.
Mohd Ali Hashim, Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Malaya, has been appointed as the branch Chairman.
Greg Lewin, President of IChemE and Shell Global Solutions International BV, emphasised the commitment of the Institution to chemical engineers in Malaysia.
He said, "Chemical Engineering is a global profession without boundaries.
IChemE is committed to supporting chemical engineers wherever they are.
The opening of a new branch here in Malaysia is a key part of our strategy in delivering this vision".
Professor Hashim said, "Chemical engineers in the process industries are growing in significance here and have contributed to the country's 8.3% growth in the manufacturing sector.
This expansion brings a range of challenges and chemical engineers must respond to them.
IChemE has an excellent track record in supporting chemical engineers and the creation of a new branch in Malaysia will provide a range of services including knowledge networks and technical training that will contribute to our members' continuing professional development and give a real boost to the professional community.".
