The foundation is about sustainability, education and agriculture in Malawi and we're eventually looking to better educate the local farmers about best agricultural processes and support them to become more independent".
This year, the charity received its first official donation to the tune of GBP500 from IChemE, which has launched its own campaign to find examples of chemical engineering innovation that supports people living in poverty.
IChemE Chief Executive, Dr David Brown said: "It's unusual to see a footballer take such an active role in something like this and David should be congratulated for using his high-profile position to raise awareness of a worthy cause.

At IChemE we're currently inviting entries for our Dhirubhai Ambani Award highlighting the best examples of outstanding chemical engineering innovation that supports people living on less than USD2-a-day".
Examples might include technology that reduces pollution, supports disposal of waste or provides cleaner energy, safe water or sustainable food supplies.
It's about finding low impact, low cost and sustainable technologies that can grow and be built into a long-term plan for poorer communities - like the work of the David James Foundation.
"Our sponsors, Reliance Industries, have provided a prize fund of USD10,000 so we're hoping scientists and chemical engineers all over the world will be putting their minds to the challenge and we'll definitely be inviting David to attend our awards dinner in October so he can see first-hand what else is going on" said Brown.
James, who was a hero for Portsmouth in last weekend's 1-0 Wembley triumph over Cardiff City said: "What we're looking to set up in Malawi could be replicated elsewhere.
The framework is based on education and doesn't require any particular crop.
Malawi is the poorest non-conflict country in the world and perhaps for that reason it doesn't get the attention it deserves".
