Tory science lesson plans backed by IChemE

An IChemE (Institution of Chemical Engineers) product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Dec 2, 2008

Plans for Conservative MPs to receive lessons in science literacy have been welcomed by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).

Shadow science minister, Adam Afriyie, said that new Tory MPs and top civil servants could all benefit from the sessions.

He proposed scientific literacy lessons for elected politicians with a view to introducing compulsory lessons for senior civil servants as part of their Continuing Professional Development.

The initiative also reveals that the party will consult with the royal academies and professional institutes on ways to integrate external scientific experts into the decision-making process.

Dr David Brown, chief executive at IChemE, said the organisation is ready to help and believes other science and engineering bodies would likely offer similar support.
