Benchmarking survey of motor drives in Europe

In early 2005 IMS Research conducted a European wide benchmarking survey to determine customer attitudes towards European suppliers of motor drives: overall Bosch Rexroth was awarded top honours

At the third biannual presentation of the prestigious Motor Drive Vendor Award, Bosch Rexroth was awarded top honours.

The award, presented at the Hannover Show in April, was attended by many key personnel within the motor drives industry and was hosted by IMS Research, the leading provider of market information to this industry.

In early 2005 IMS Research conducted a European wide bench marking survey to determine customer attitudes towards European suppliers of motor drives.

Users from a range of different industries rated their suppliers performance for eight key criteria, such as clear user manuals, leading edge technology, and good technical support.

In total over 500 assessments for eleven of the top motor drive suppliers in Europe were obtained.

Users of motor drives completing the on-line survey indicated that the most important issue to them when selecting a supplier was "product reliability".

The Japanese joint venture of Omron Yaskawa was assessed to be the leading supplier in this area by some way.

However, in general respondents indicated a high level of satisfaction with the performance of all suppliers for this issue, a positive testament for all drives suppliers.

Other factors that that were deemed particularly important when selecting motor drive suppliers were "competitive pricing" and "good technical support".

Behind product reliability these were the second and third most important criteria, and the companies excelling in these were STIE and Danfoss respectively.

The overall winner of the Motor Drive Vendor Award for 2005 was decided by assessing the performance of the top eleven companies for each of the eight key criteria.

A weighting factor was also introduced to take into account the importance of each of the issues to the motor drive users.

Bosch Rexroth won the award with a strong performance in a number of categories including being positioned first for clear user manuals, and second for product reliability, leading edge technology, and good technical support.
