An increasing number of operator interface manufacturers are offering products with embedded PLC hardware.
This factor, coupled with the increased marketing of these products by suppliers, has educated users and potential users about their benefits, which has been critical in stimulating stronger growth within the market.
Additionally, the trend towards decentralised control has bolstered this growth, as embedding additional functionality within the operator interface has reduced the work-load placed upon the centralised controller.
IMS Research senior analyst and report author, Tim Dawson commented: "Overall, this represents quite a positive forecast for these products.
Previous projections made in 2004 were more pessimistic, but the last two years has seen numerous product releases from manufacturers".
Dawson continues: "The process of combining an operator interface and a PLC into a single unit may be considered less alien to users than embedding PLC functionality into other automation products.
PLCs and operator interfaces have always traditionally worked very closely together, both location-wise and as part of a control system".
