So many Industrial Ethernet flavours to choose!

Growth in the use of Ethernet-based communication is forecast to exceed that of networking protocols in general; according to a new report on the world industrial Ethernet from IMS Research

Global shipments of industrial Ethernet nodes are forecast to grow at 21.7% CAGR over the next 5 years, with some regions and industries faring better than others.

The new report follows the world market for industrial networking, published earlier this year.

Senior Market Analyst John Morse commented, "Industrial Ethernet appears to be following the same path trodden by fieldbus protocols; with a growing number of variations on the theme.

Many of the variants will find their niche in the market however, it will come as no surprise that the research found that Profinet is forecast ultimately to dominate the EMEA region and Ethernet/IP will enjoy the lion's share in the Americas".

This is due to the relative strength of Siemens and Rockwell Automation in EMEA and the Americas respectively.

Morse continued, "However, the report predicts that the mix of technologies will be more even in Asia".

The report offers a number of market segmentations including a detailed analysis of components used in industrial Ethernet infrastructures.

The research identifies good components opportunities in the infrastructure related industries.
