Wessex Section considers educational robotics

An IMC Wessex Division product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Nov 5, 2008

IMC Wessex Section has revealed that its Committee meeting in July was dedicated to education, with the objective of inspiring children via the use of Lego Mindstorms Educational Robots.

The discussion theme was how schools can best use the robots to inspire school pupils and how the Wessex Section can support them with financial and technical assistance.

Pupils from Testwood School in Southampton attended the meeting and demonstrated a robot.

They explained the function of the robot by getting it to react to light, sound, distance and move and turn.

They also showed live programming using the NXT software with a laptop and projector.

IMC Wessex Section is to fund a project at Noadswood school in Southampton in co-operation with Cognis UK.

It is seeking sponsorship from the industry to expand the initiative.
