K-Box is a multiple-use, robust plastic container, which can be securely stacked one on top of the other using specially designed locators on the base and box lid.
The K-Box offers optimal protection for products during transport and prevents them from being contaminated with wood chips or sawdust.
Jointly developed with German company Georg Utz Gmbh, the K-Box replaces Schaeffler's previous disposable, wooden crates.
The patented 'K-Box' container is suitable for use with materials handling equipment and replaces more than 40 different types of non-returnable wooden crate.
The bearing is held securely in the K-Box using adjustable eccentric straps - a unique concept in the market.
The outside diameter of the bearing is secured in the packaging with four eccenters and the height is adjusted using a telescopic function from the top and bottom of the box with double strapping.
This means that one box size can be used for multiple rolling bearing dimensions, reducing the number of packaging variants that customers require.
Just as important, the customer can open the box quickly and easily without any tools and any risk of injury.
"The K-Box has been precisely adjusted to our customers' requirements and is used world-wide," says Martin Hassdenteufel, packaging technology manager at the Schaeffler Group, who worked closely with the packaging supplier Georg Utz.
"In Europe, we have introduced a return system to ensure that the box is indeed used several times".
Return of empty K-Boxes is easy for the customer.
Small numbers are picked up by an express service, larger amounts are collected by Schaeffler's own forwarding agency - both are free of charge for Schaeffler customers.
At present, the K-Box is available in two width sizes: 400 x 400mm and 500 x 500mm for spherical roller bearings with outside diameters from 250mm to 480mm, and a maximum weight of 150kg. Request free introductory details about products from Schaeffler (UK) ...
