IAS has successfully completed the coating mass control system upgrade for the hot dip galvanising line at Nucor Steel Crawfordsville, Indiana, USA

IAS has successfully completed the coating mass control system upgrade for the hot dip galvanising line at Nucor Steel Crawfordsville, Indiana, USA The Achieva Coating Control system, as designed and installed by IAS, incorporates a proven physics based coating mass model which generates accurate knife to strip distances and stripping gas pressure references

Advanced signal processing algorithms allow the controls to estimate coating thickness during order transitions within one coating gauge scan.

The resulting control actions minimise the generation of out-of-spec material and the minimised coating standard deviation allows for zinc savings.

The combined effort of IAS and Nucor engineers resulted in a system which easily exceeded coating performance guarantees.

Further process improvements are anticipated as the new automation system is included in the Millcare continuous improvement and support contract already in place for their two cold mills.
