Digital pressure transducer is fully submersible

An Inertial Aerosystems product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Jun 18, 2009

Inertial Aerosystems has introduced a fully submersible version of its PPTR ruggedised Smart digital pressure transducer.

The unit, manufactured by US-based Honeywell, incorporates a Sea Con electrical connector, which is qualified for use in depths in excess of 2,000m.

Codenamed the PPTR Submersible, it has an environmentally sealed stainless-steel construction and is designed for use in severe conditions, primarily as a depth sensor in seawater and other corrosive environments.

Combining silicon sensor technology with microprocessor-based signal conditioning, the Smart sensor delivers repeatable long-term accuracy of 0.1 per cent of span over an operating temperature of -4C to 60C.

The unit has many programmable features and automatic fault detection.

The PPTR can measure depths in excess of 2,000m (3,000lb/in2).

Efficient system design ensures no additional signal compensation is needed, and data acquisition can connect up to 89 units on a multi-drop bus if using the optional RS-485 capability (RS232 standard).

This product can be installed with both existing and new systems.

It is ideal where space and weight are at a premium, as the unit measures 132.7 x 34.7mm and weighs 424g.
