The recently released American Society for Industrial Security Trends in Proprietary Loss Survey of Fortune 100 companies found the number one security threat comes from employees and internal issues

The recently released American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) 2006 Trends in Proprietary Loss Survey of Fortune 100 companies found that the number one security threat comes from employees and internal issues Commonly the published articles discuss the internal security issues faced by small to medium sized enterprises but forget to look at the industrial networks attached to office networks

These are just as affected by internal security breaches highlights Innominate.

"Whilst it is generally attacks from external sources that attract media attention, organisations would be foolish to discount threats from within," comments Joachim Fietz, CEO Innominate.

"Viruses can easily be transferred from an office network to the company industrial Ethernet network.

Just installing a firewall is not enough.

Industrial Ethernet networks need just as much, if not more, attention to security as office networks.

DIN Rail-mounted devices that can be installed without any production line downtime are the key to industrial network security" Fietz continues: "Potential security threats that an organisation takes into consideration should not only include those with malicious intent.

For example, portable media players and smart phones are becoming ever more sophisticated and it is easy to forget that they are, in essence, a portable computer and are susceptible to virus attacks.

Organisations should be aware of the potential costs these devices would cause if they were connected to the network and viruses transferred.

Employees and companies need to ensure that they are well secured against any scenario".
