The combined organisation will market and support both Intergraph and Eyecad software and services in the Japanese market.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
"The Eyecad transaction is consistent with our strategic plan as it enables a further expansion of our Process, Power and Marine division into the Asia Pacific region and represents an effective use of capital," said Halsey Wise, President and CEO of Intergraph.
Intergraph plans to maintain Eyecad 6.2 for existing Japanese customers and provide enhancements through SmartPlant technology, including improved drawing production and new 3D visualisation capabilities.
Capitalising on the engineering expertise contained within Eyecad, Intergraph plans to incorporate into the SmartPlant software suite Japanese specifications and materials reference databases for piping, electrical, instrumentation and related disciplines.
Eyecad engineering knowledge and resources will also accelerate localisation of the SmartPlant suite for the Japanese market.
Gerhard Sallinger, President, Intergraph Process, Power and Marine, said, "The acquisition of Eyecad represents new market opportunities for Intergraph in Japan as well as technology enhancements for Eyecad customers.
The Japanese market remains a key gateway for Intergraph into the entire Asia Pacific region.
The addition of Japanese specifications to the SmartPlant suite provides a business and technical edge not only for Japanese engineering firms but also for international companies designing and constructing plants throughout Asia Pacific.".
