Meeting on micro wind turbines and planning issues

An Institute of Acoustics product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team May 15, 2007

Micro-generation is the production of energy on the smallest of scales, for individual buildings or communities, and planning issues are becoming increasingly important

With current emphasis on the reduction of carbon emissions high on the public and political agendas, micro-generation, including in the form of micro wind turbines is becoming increasingly popular.

The Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) is currently consulting on the potential of affording Permitted Development Rights to a range of Micro-generation technologies.

The consultation document contains a range of acoustic criteria that, if met, would allow the installation of Micro Wind Turbines without the need for planning permission.

The deadline for the consultation is 27 June 2007.

With this in mind, the Institute of Acoustics and the NSCA will be discussing the proposals at the Arden Hotel, Birmingham on 24 May 2007, which coincides with Noise Action Week from 21-25 May 2007.

The meeting is aimed at Environmental Health professionals who have an interest in noise, acoustic consultants, planners and anyone with an interest in micro-generation or wind turbines.
