Expo to host Birds-of-a-Feather roundtables
ISA announced today the suppliers that will be featured in the Control Systems Birds-of-a-Feather (BOF) roundtable discussions at the ISA Expo 2006, from 17-19 October in Houston
The Alley will provide an opportunity for attendees to see into the future, along with the commercial innovations of today's automation hardware, software, and service suppliers that are presented in the traditional exhibits.
Dick Morley's commitment to highlighting leading-edge technologies is steadfast: "We at ISA have to make sure we understand what the customer and user really want - which is productivity and innovation, seldom does this process occur at the centre of comfort".
ISA President Ken Baker added: "We're excited and proud to bring new, fresh faces to the forefront of the industry at ISA EXPO, this is how progress happens.
Our society is in a unique position to support and nurture innovation in this industry, and this is an important step in that direction".
Some of the innovative companies that will be featured in this year's Innovation Alley are as follows:.
* Solstice Technologies is a software company founded by a small group of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) students.
These students entered the DARPA Grand Challenge and finished the project in three months and with only a US$7,000 investment.
* Hardbikes features a novel motorcycle manufacturing concept.
You visit a dealer, sit on a model machine and adjust all the body parameters.
These body parameters are sent to the factory and 45 days later you get the custom bike of your dreams built for your body.
* SoftSwitching Technologies: A little flicker of light wreaks havoc with paint jobs, semiconductor production and more.
Most ubergeeks put uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) locally around computers to keep them running.
But what about the factory itself? SoftSwitching Technologies supplies UPS for short-term survival in thousands of amperes and hundreds of volts in three-phase.
* NCMS - National Center for Manufacturing Sciences is a membership organization with more than 100 of the Fortune 400 manufacturing companies as members.
They connect modern industry to work together on specific projects.
These projects may include fuel cells for automobiles, batteries, maintenance control, and more.
NCMS is currently working on intelligent machines.
The "Smart Machine Platform Initiative" will be highlighted at their Innovation Alley exhibit.
* Shoplogix puts small units, like cell phones, on each machine or process in the plant and transmits that information in real time to appropriate software, that allows the operators and managers of the factory to see what's going on.
* Longwatch puts video transmission over existing low-bandwidth communication lines.
Their major objective is to ensure secure, safe, and reliable water supplies.
* AgilePath supplies Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) solutions.
SOA is a concept that is relatively old but new in its "overnight acceptance" in the industrial and processing sector.
It allows and provides a framework for various applications to talk to each other; much like a backbone approach in the software systems area.
* Divelbiss Corporation makes PLCs on a chip.
Embedded components and embedded systems coupled with large-scale systems such as some others in Innovation Alley aspire to reduce our risk, improve productivity and our vision.
