US and Indian government and business leaders are hailing the first phase of the US Business Mission to India as a tremendous success: ISA will participate with a select number of mission participants

US and Indian government and business leaders are hailing the first phase of the US Business Mission to India as a tremendous success Patrick Gouhin, Executive Director and CEO of ISA, joined 169 US business leaders in the banking, insurance, energy, aerospace, automotive, pharmaceutical information technology and service sectors to attend a two-day summit in Mumbai

US Ambassador to India, the Honorable David Mulford, and Undersecretary of Commerce Franklin Lavin opened the Summit along with leaders from India's Trade and Commerce Ministry and business leaders from the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and the Confederation of Indian Industry.

A special presentation was made at the opening session by Mr Shyam Saran, Special Envoy to the Prime Minister and Former Foreign Secretary, Government of India.

The size of the delegation and the importance placed on the mission by Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and US President George Bush underscore the potential of a healthy trade relationship between the United States and India.

"Organizations such as Anheuser Busch, Alcoa, the American Heart Association, ASME, Black and Veatch, BWXT, CH2M Hill, IBM, and General Electric are recognizing the importance of the market in India.

The ISA presence in India can benefit the industries we serve, as well as our 30,000 members in the automation profession around the world," said Gouhin.

Participation in the Business Mission and Summit in India is a key step in the ISA globalisation plan, announced earlier this year by ISA leadership.

ISA President Ken Baker said, "ISA leadership considers India a top priority in the society's mission to set the standard for the automation profession.

We have committed to a long term investment in India to serve the expected growth in the economy and the needs of the automation community".

"India is not a journey for the faint-hearted, or for those who expect overnight success," said David Mulford, US Ambassador to India, in his address to the hundreds of Indian and American delegates at the summit: "You will need a strategy - a long term view - patience, and persistence.

But one of the world's great markets is here".

Phase two of the US Business Mission to India begins on Sunday, when ISA will participate with a select number of mission participants in a sector-focused spin-off session in Bangalore.

More information about this session will be available next week.
