The industry gathers in Houston for ISA
EXPO 2007
The industry's best and brightest will deliver comprehensive, timely, provocative briefings and updates at this year's ISA EXPO, to be held from 2-4 October at the Reliant Center in Houston
Dozens of industry experts will lead discussions focused around six key technology areas: security, wireless and networking, process automation, safety, environmental and quality control, and enterprise integration Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss best practices, lessons learned, and potential solutions to specific automation problems with the experts as part of the event's technology exchange format

The security exchange will focus on protecting manufacturing automation and control systems computer environments.
Attendees will have the chance to learn from experts like Brian Singer of FluidIQs, Wayne Manges of Oak Ridge National Lab, Eric Cosman of The Dow Chemical Co, Jim Gilsinn of NIST, Robert Evans of Idaho National Laboratory, and Tom Burke of the OPC Foundation.
Sessions will explore the activities of the ISA99 Manufacturing and Control Systems Security committee and the ISA100 Wireless Systems for Automation committee, the regulatory environment, OMAC and Microsoft-related industrial applications, OPC, security risk analysis, and more.

The wireless and networking exchange sessions will cover a wide variety of technologies, including SCADA, signal compatibility, wireless, cyber security, fieldbuses, industrial Ethernet, safety buses, EDDL network selection, and the ISA100 wireless standards activities.
Industry experts presenting during this exchange include Manges, Dick Caro of CMC Associates, Klaus-Peter Lindner of Endress+Hauser Process Solutions, Pat Kinney of Kinney Consulting, John Rinaldi of Real Time Automation, Ian Verhappen of MTL Instrument Group, and Terry Blevins of Emerson Process Management.
The process automation exchange focuses on designating instruments and instrumentation systems used for measurement and control.
Sessions will cover flow measurement, model predictive control, batch applications, advanced regulatory control, and more.
Vernon Trevathan of Control and Integration Management, Herald Wade of Wade Associates, Jonas Berge of Emerson Process Management Asia Pacific, and Dick Morley, the father of the PLC, are among the experts presenting during this exchange.
Attendees can also participate in or listen to panels and discussions of a digital oil patch, wireless, distillation processes, and instrumentation and valve standards.
The safety exchange will help attendees avoid the headline-grabbing disasters plaguing the industry today.
Sessions will focus on topics like SIS (safety-instrumented systems), hazardous location, alarms, safety integrity level (SIL) selection, and boiler controls safety themes.
Attendees will also learn about electrical equipment for hazardous locations, instrument signals and alarms, and ISA84 Standards for Use in Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals.
Nick Sands of E I du Pont, Paul Gruhn of ICS Triplex, and Ed Marszal of Kenexis are featured presenters, giving sessions on alarm systems in process automation, functional safety standards, and SIL selection.
The environmental and quality control exchange encompasses important developments in the power, chemical and substance analysis, pharmaceutical, and water industries.
Fossil power and nuclear power plant standards will be topics for discussion, along with standards for safe and environment-friendly power applications, PAT (Process Analytical Technology), and NeSSI (New Sampling/ Sensor Initiative).
There will also be presentations on in-line sensors, CEMs (continuous emissions monitoring) and building-control issues.
The enterprise integration exchange will focus on opening and improving existing operations, integrating new hardware and software, and optimising asset management programmes.
Sessions will focus on control system integration, maintenance management to leverage preventive and predictive maintenance, equipment recording and tracking, replacement parts inventory, and maintenance labour scheduling with the goal of optimising asset use.
Attendees will have an opportunity to study schemas to implement the recent and popular ISA95 Enterprise-Control System Integration and ISA88 Batch Control standards.
Additional sessions will cover management and human resources issues.
Industry experts Dave Emerson of Yokogawa, Dennis Brandl of BR+L Consulting, and Charlie Gifford of GE Fanuc Automation Americas will be on hand to give presentations and answer attendee questions about these topics.
