Fast accurate moisture measurement for environmental technology and biotechnology applications using the 'Moist' microwave moisture measurement system

Isatec, a UK based supplier of industrial software and microwave moisture measuring technology, is introducing a product that promises to improve the efficiency of environmental technology and biotechnological processes.

Isatec is distributing the 'Moist' range of microwave moisture measurement systems manufactured by HF sensor of Leipzig, Germany which allow fast, accurate, measurement of moisture in a variety of materials.

The ideal environment for most bacteria is a moisture level of between 30% and 60% and monitoring this level using traditional moisture meters has inherent inaccuracies due to the non uniform nature of the materials being measured.

Using gravimetric techniques, although more accurate, requires samples to be taken and dried in the laboratory over a period of hours or even days, before achieving a measurement.

This means that many processes are not running optimally due to too much or too little water being present.

The dipolar nature of water, and its very high permittivity compared to dry materials, at high frequencies, makes microwave technology ideal for moisture measurement in environmental technologies and biotechnology.

The microwave moisture meters of the Moist series are the basis for special versions of microwave sensors developed for environmental technology.

Moist BIO is a probe sensor that can penetrate up to 1.5metres for hand held applications and Moist BIO P is a sensor for on line measurements.

Measuring moisture with Moist BIO microwave sensors gives immediate values of the material within the range 0 to 80% with an accuracy comparable with a reference method.

For all measurements in organic materials it is recommended to take more than one reading and calculate an average.

Averaging is a standard function of the Moist 200 handheld meter which is used with the Moist BIO sensor.
