'Chemi-safe' is designed to ensure diesel is prohibited from leaking or spilling into the water table during unloading from a delivery tanker, by use of trapped key interlocks

ISS Safety was recently awarded a contract by Trant Construction to supply its 'Chemi-safe' safety system to National Grid: working with Trant Construction, ISS was given the task of project managing the design and installation of the system Alistair Parker of Trant Construction, said: "The use of the Chemi-safe interlocking valve system in lieu of the installation of a full retention class 1 separator and associated drainage system dramatically reduced the construction risks associated with installing a large underground structure in an electricity substation"

'Chemi-safe' is designed to ensure diesel is prohibited from leaking or spilling into the water table during the unloading process from the delivery tanker.

The ISS 'Chemi-safe' system removes human error via the use of trapped key interlocks.

Trapped Key Interlocks force the operator through a predetermined operating sequence ensuring that dangerous shortcuts and human error cannot cause environmental harm.

'Chemi-safe' forces the tanker driver to divert the bund drain valve to a storage tank prior to the connection of the diesel hose, ensuring if diesel spill occurs it will be safely captured in the underground storage tank and not find its way into the water table.

Chemi-safe removes the requirement for padlocks in conjunction with permit to work policies, which potentially still allow human error.

National Grid joins a number of UK Utility companies now employing 'Chemi-safe' in fuel and chemical loading facilities to control the loading process.
