Koch-Glitsch signs exclusive sales agreement with SimSci-Esscor: the companies are to market simulation tools for rate-based and batch distillation processes in refining and chemical plants

Koch-Glitsch signs exclusive sales and marketing agreement with SimSci-Esscor Companies to enhance and market simulation tools for rate-based and batch distillation processes in refining, chemical and petrochemical plants SimSci-Esscor, an operating unit of Invensys plc, today announced it has signed a 10-year, exclusive agreement with Koch-Glitsch, a global leader in mass transfer and mist-elimination technology Under terms of the contract, the organisations will work together to develop, enhance, market and support RateFrac and BatchFrac, industry-leading simulation software tools designed for rate-based and batch-distillation processes in refining, chemical and petrochemical plants

The RateFrac software is a rate-based, non-equilibrium model used to simulate all types of multi-stage, vapour-liquid fractionation operations.

The addition of this simulation program will expand the SimSci-Esscor offerings in the process simulation market.

The BatchFrac model, a rigorous batch-distillation program, is used by chemists and engineers involved in the design and optimisation of batch processes.

"We are very pleased to be working exclusively with SimSci-Esscor, a market leader known for its focus on providing robust and reliable simulation software," said Bob DiFulgentiz, president of Koch-Glitsch.

"We remain strongly committed to supporting these tools and believe that this agreement delivers the best approach to ensure the long-term stability for the user community, as well as the further development and enhancement of simulation solutions".

The agreement, effective from November 2003, will give SimSci-Esscor the exclusive right to sell the market leading Koch-Glitsch simulation tools to new customers on a worldwide basis, as well as upgrade current users with additional licenses to both products.

The strategic union provides SimSci-Esscor with an opportunity for market expansion through the sale of its simulation and optimisation products to customers currently using the RateFrac and BatchFrac software.

As part of the agreement, both organisations will continue upgrading and enhancing the features, functions and ease-of-use of these tools to provide current and new customers with improved business processes and maximum return on investment.

"SimSci-Esscor has recognised for some time that the technical strengths of the RateFrac and BatchFrac models are important to many customers around the world," said Ken Brown, SimSci-Esscor vice president and general manager.

"We are looking forward to working with Koch-Glitsch and the strong future that the company presents for its applications coupled with the enhanced simulation tools provided by SimSci-Esscor".

SimSci-Esscor will integrate both programmes as add-on modules with its PRO/II solution, the company flagship steady-state process simulator.

The seamless integration will be completed using SimSci-Esscor SIM4ME architecture that provides a common graphical user interface and complete interoperability between the simulation tools.

The SIM4ME architecture, which includes other SimSci-Esscor simulation and optimisation tools, provides customers with a comprehensive solution to successfully design, operate and optimise process plants.

"For many years, Toyo Engineering has used SimSci-Esscor technology as a corporate standard," said Masakazu Sasaki, PhD, technical leader at Toyo Engineering Corp, one of Japan's leading engineering, procurement and construction firms focusing on energy industry projects.

"We are delighted that we will now be able to use the Koch-Glitsch BatchFrac and RateFrac technology with SimSci-Esscor PRO/II solution.

This will significantly enhance our process engineering productivity and demonstrates the commitment of SimSci-Esscor to delivering best-of-class simulation capabilities to the process industries.".
